We keep hearing that we're supposedly in a recession. If so, why would anyone want to take more money out of the pockets of Americans?

You can't mean to be that simplistic, can you? Under this "logic" if wealth was concentrated so much that 12 people controlled 99% of the nation's wealth and we went into recession, you'd argue against raising taxes on those 12 and cutting them for the other 150 million taxpayers.
If these tax *rebates* showed anything, it's that if you cut taxes disproportionately in favor of poor and middle class taxpayers, they stimulate the economy. They're going to spend that $600, like, now. Somebody with plenty of disposable income might not and while one could argue that we need more people to save as well, I'd rather pay down the deficit.
Something else: we're at war. This is the first time we've cut taxes during wartime. Look at that deficit. Look at your grandkids. Note that the people who want us to stop spending $10 billion per month are the ones with this allegedly "recession-empowering" tax plan.
It's all about the ideology, not fairness..
